S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister had a meeting with Douglas Devananda, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Fisheries amid his three visit to the island country and also assessed cooperation in a joint working group session regarding the fisheries.
In a tweet, Jaishnakar wrote about the meeting, “A productive meeting with Douglas Devananda. Reviewed our cooperation in fisheries after the recent Joint Working Group Session. Look forward to working with him closely.”
In his three-day visit, Jaishankar also had a meeting with ex-Prime Minister of Sri Lanka who is the Leader of the United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Jaishnakar tweeted, “Pleasure to catch up with former PM@RW_UNP. Appreciated his long standing support for our bilateral relationship.”
Jaishankar also met Sri Lanka’s ledaer of Opposition Sajith Premadasa and had a discussion on bilateral relations. He tweeted, “Happy to meet Leader of Opposition @sajithpremadasa and his delegation. Appreciated the exchange of views on our bilateral relationship.”
Jaishankar’s visit also marks his interaction with the business leaders of Sri Lanka. He said on Twitter, “A very useful interaction with business leaders of Sri Lanka. Appreciated their insights and suggestions on economic cooperation.”
This is Jaishankar’s first international visit for the year and also marks the first visit of a foreign minister to Sri Lanka in the new year.
