S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India had joint discussion with the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Tokyo on Tuesday with special emphasis on several elements of bilateral ties and further strategies to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. This particularly pertains to the rising tension triggered by China.
S Jaishankar Prasad and Mike Pompeo were attending a ministerial meeting of the Quadrilateral coalition which consists of India, Australia, the United States and Japan.
Jaishankar also urged Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to attending the meet alongside the leaders from US, Japan and Australia.
Jaishankar posted on Twitter, “Began my Tokyo visit with a bilateral meeting with @SecPompeo. Pleased to see the progress of our partnership in so many fields. Will work together for stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
The discussions between India and US are of prime significance in the present scenario when both the nations are have rifts with China. They also had talks about overall ties which consisted of the emerging security scenario around India.
In his visit to Tokyo, Jaishankar will also have meetings and discussion with Japanese correspondent Toshimitsu Motegi and Australian foreign minister Marise Payne. Further on, India is also focusing on expansion of bilateral cooperation with Japan, the US and Australia.
