Karnataka declares relief package for BPL families whose members succumbed to Covid-19

Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday declared a relief package of Rs. 1 lakh for all the families under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) whose adult or earning members have succumbed to the deadly virus, according to news agency PTI.

Yediyurappa said, “Due to Covid-19, many families are in trouble. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to give ₹1 lakh to each of such members of BPL families which lost their adult members,” further adding the benefits will extend to around 25,000 – 30,000 families.

Yediyurappa revealed the initiative of the relief package will cost the state a sum from Rs. 250 crore to Rs. 300 crore.

Around 32,913 lost their lives due to Covid-19 in Karnataka as of Sunday. The state reported 125 deaths and 7,810 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours period for Sunday, thereby raising the total infections tally to more than 27.65 lakh, as per the State Health Department.

Presently, the state has 1,80,835 active cases, and the total recoveries are 25,51,365 as nearly 18,648 people were discharged after recovery on Sunday.
