The Karnataka government is yet to make a final decision regarding re-opening of schools, revealed state Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar on Wednesday. He said, the Educational Department would be presenting a report to the Chief Minister in the upcoming four to five days for final decision.
The Education Minister had conducted a meeting with the officials and the office-bearers of the teacher’s associations. Post the meeting, he told the reporters, “Today, we had a discussion with the officials and gathered information on opening of the schools…Our department has not taken any decision yet.”
Further, the Education Department will conduct more meetings and hold discussions with the social welfare department, Bengaluru civic agency, Health Department and Representative of school development and associated monitoring committees.
The department would prepare a report consisting of combined opinions and conclusions from all the meetings and then furnish the report to the Government. “”After collecting all the information, we will submit a report to the Chief Minister. We will explain to him the entire situation and then we will announce our future course of action,” Suresh Kumar said
Regarding a particular time frame for submiting the reports, Kumar said, it would be after the overall compilation of all the reports, which he iterated would take four to five days. Though, the pandemic has kept people confined, the department still managed to hold the 10th annual examination in June. But, the re-opening of schools was criticized by the parents and Opposition parties.
On being asked about the transfer of teachers, Kumar mentioned it has been halted citing the model code of conduct in the wake of Assembly bypolls. Along with the primary and high-school teachers, the transfer of pre-university college lectures is also pending, he added.
