Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has announced that there will be a reduction in the penalty for not wearing a mask from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 250 in the urban areas and from Rs. 500 to Rs. 100 in the rustic areas.
In an official statement, Yediyurappa stated that the reduction in fine was passed “in the backdrop of public opposition and experts’ opinions”.
Earlier, in the previous week, the state government had hiked the penalty in both the urban areas and rural areas to Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 to stop the contagion of the virus.To which, several citizens have reported that the fine is “too much”.
Yediyurappa stated, “Ever since Covid-19 was first reported in Karnataka, the government is doing everything possible to contain it.
