Karnataka to resume offline classes for PG, UG courses post Sankranti

The state government has taken the decision to resume the offline classes for the first year post graduate and first- and second-year undergraduate students post the Sankranti festival. The date to begin the classes will be announced in the coming days.

A virtual meeting led by higher education minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan in Bengaluru on Friday with the VCs of the universities throughout the state took over the decision. The minister has issued the vice-chancellors to present a report regarding the same to decide the dates and declare the same for resuming the classes.

With the on-going classes running successfully for the final year students, the first and the second year students are asking for classes to commence. Based on the demands, the minister had held a meeting with the vice-chancellors who gave a affirmative response regarding beginning the offline classes.

Post the meeting, Ashwath Narayan said, “The classes for final year students are conducted successfully and we will even start offline classes for other grades too after Sankranti by following all safety procedures from University Grants Commission and Covid-19 protocols.”

A vice-chancellor asked, “When the classes for grades 10 and 12 are conducted without any disruptions, why can’t for higher classes?”

Meanwhile, the minister ensured about discussion with transport department and hostel facilities.

Regarding the discussion about exams, the vice-chancellors have mostly given an agreement to pen and paper exam over the offline mode.
