Lebanon’s army tracks more than 4 tonnes of ammonium nitrate near Beirut Port

The Lebanese army found more than 4 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stocked around Beirut’s port on Thursday. This discovers traces a horrific incident about an explosion that happened a month ago taking the lives of 191 people.

The 4.35 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a toxic hazard, was stored in four containers in the port’s vicinity as discovered by the army experts. No details were found regarding the owner or the origin of the toxic chemical.The military statement mentioned that the army experts were “dealing with the material’, an apparent reference about its destruction. The army stated afterwards that the containers were moved and stored safely away from the port.

191 killed, over 6000 injured

The discovery is exactly a month later 3000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stocked near port for 6 years was detonated which caused enormous destruction. The blast that happened a month ago killed 191 people and injured more than 6000 people. The blast was extremely devastating which rendered 300,000 people homeless and damages worth billions of dollars.

French experts along with the FBI are a part of the 4 Aug blast investigation after the request forwarded by Lebanese authorities.
