Two FIRs have been filed at the Upparpet Police Station and nine people have been arrested for assaulting the on-duty staffers of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

The FIRs were registered while having links with the strike invoked by the state transport department on Saturday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DCP), West, said, “In yesterday’s incidents, 2 FIRs registered in Upparpet Police Station, for assaulting BMTC staff on duty and for preventing staff from operating buses and threatening those who came to work. Nine persons were arrested.”

Many commuters were facing a travel block on Saturday as Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) continued the strike with the demands to be considered as government employees.

Manjunath, from Mysuru, had gone to Shivamogga, is stuck there on Saturday. He said, “I came from Mysuru for some official work. Unfortunately, from yesterday we are stuck here without transportation. It is very difficult for the public to travel from here to there. They should give notice to people in advance so that they can plan accordingly.”

Another angry traveller said, “We are stuck here and no one is giving proper answers.”

The bus strike has been invoked by the state transport employees demanding government employee status and accordingly the privileges for the government employees.

On Friday, meetings were conducted between Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi along with the heads of BMTC and KSRTC strikes, but no conclusion was reached.
