PM Modi addresses the nation in “Mann ki Baat”, appeals for low key Dusshera celebrations during the Covid-19 pandemic

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the 70th edition of the monthly radio programme on Sunday. In his address, he reemphasized on digressing to domestic goods by saying, “we must not forget to be vocal for local during this festive season.”

Talking about the recognition of the Indian goods worldwide, Modi spoke about khadi, adding that the product was not just used across the world for being eco-friendly but is also a fashion statement.

With the Dusshera festivities around, Modi said Dusshera is a festival of victory of patience over crisis, and as every citizen is living with great restraint, we all will be victorious in the battle of Covid-19. He said, “Previously, a large number of people used to gather in Durga Pandal. It was a fair-like atmosphere during Durga Pooja and Dusshera, but this time it didn’t happen. Many more festivals are to be observed, we’ve to work with restraint during this Corona crisis.” Honoring the frontline workers in the Covid-19 battle, PM said Sanitisation workers, housekeepers and guards were with us amid severe situations, now in festivals, we’ve to take them along.

In his address, PM Modi also urged to remember the jawans who spend their festivals at the border trying to protect the country. He iterated, “This festive season, remember Jawans and light a lamp for them.”

Regarding the upcoming events, Modi broached about the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel on October 31, which, he said also marks the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, paying tribute and respect to her and her contributions to the country.
