Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out the ‘bhoomi poojan’ on Monday via the mode of video conferencing for Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase – II and Surat Metro Rail Project.
In the earlier part of the day, PM Modi shared on Twitter about the event. Modi tweeted, “Today is a a landmark day for two of Gujarat’s leading urban centres. The Bhoomi Poojan of Surat Metro and Phase-2 of the Ahmedabad metro would take place at 10:30 am.”
According to an official release, the Metro Projects will cater to an environment friendly ‘Mass Rapid Transit System’ for both the cities.
At the ‘bhoomi poojan’ ceremony, the prominent people present were Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
The 28.25 Kilometers long, Phase – II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project will be having two corridors. Corridor-1 will extend from Motera Stadium to Mahatma mandir with distance range of 22.8 kilometres and Corridor-2 will be from GNLU to GIFT city with length of 5.4 kilometres. Alongside, the Surat metro Rail project will have a length of 40.35 kilometres and have two corridors. Corridor -1 will extend from Sarthana to Dream City with distance range of 21.61 km and Corrudor-2 will be from Bhesan to Saroli covering the distance of 18.74 kilometres. Both the metro projects are assigned the budget of Rs 12,020 crores.
