PM Modi to lay foundation stone of light house project on Jan 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation stone for Light House Projects (LHPs) under the Global Housing Technology Challenge – India at six different sites across the country on January 1, via the mode of video conferencing.

According to a statement declared, The Prime Minister will be announcing the names of the winners under the Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators – India (ASHA – India) and also distribute annual awards for excellence in implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna – Urban (PMAY-U) Mission.

The construction of the LHPs will take place in cities like Indore, Rajkot, Chennai, Ranchi, Agartala and Lucknow, where as many as 1,000 houses will be in each location along with allied infrastructure facilities.

Alongside, PM Modi is also going to launch a certificate course on the subject innovative construction technologies, which is called NAVARITH (New, Affordable, Validated, Research Innovation Technologies for Indian Housing) along with a compendium of 54 innovative housing construction technologies.

The statement read, “The LHPs showcase the best of new-age alternate global technologies, materials and processes in the construction sector for the first time in the country at such a large scale. They are being constructed under the GHTC-India which envisages to provide an ecosystem for the adoption of innovative technologies in the housing construction sector in a holistic manner.”

The objective of the Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators – India (ASHA-India) is to promote domestic research and entrepreneurship through providing incubation and acceleration support regarding the probable future technologies.

To work on the initiative, five ASHA centres have been established which will be providing incubation and acceleration support. The vision of ‘Housing for All by 2022’ has been the driving force of PMAY-U Mission. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched the annual awards for excellence in implementing PMAY-Urban for recognizing the contribution of the States, UTs, Urban Local Bodies and beneficiaries.
