Prime Minister Narendra Modi has scheduled for a three-city visit today to assess the Covid-19 vaccine development and manufacturing process. The three development centres that Modi will visit are Ahmedabad’s Zydus Biotech Park, Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech, and Pune’s Serum Institute of India (SII).
The Prime Minister’s Office shared on Twitter, “As India enters a decisive phase of the fight against Covid-19, PM @narendramodis visit to these facilities & discussions with the scientists will help him get a first hand perspective of the preparations, challenges & roadmap in India’s endeavour to vaccinate its citizens.”
As per the reports, the PM scheduled to visit Zydus Cadilas plant first, who has declared the phase-1 clinical trial of potential vaccine ZyCoV-D has completed and started the phase-II trials from August.
Modi’s second destination would be Hyderabad for visiting Bharat BioTech facility, whose vaccine candidate Covaxin is under on-going phase III clinical trials. The PM’s last destination will be Pune’s Serum Institute of India, around 04:30 pm and will review the vaccine developed by Jenner Institute of Oxford University in collaboration with AstraZeneca. It has been announced by Oxford University and AstraZeneca that their vaccine candidate has proven to be 90 % effective in the clinical trials.
