Rajnath Singh: Government is all set to hold discussion with farmers

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the government is all set to have a discussion with the farmers but simultaneously revealed that the recently passed farm laws are strictly adhering to the best interests of the farmers.

While addressing the annual convention of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Rajnath Singh stated, “There is no question of taking retrograde steps against our agricultural sector ever. The recent reforms have been undertaken with the best interests of India’s farmers in mind.”

As the farmers’ protests continue for over 19 days, Singh iterated about the government’s support saying they are “always willing to listen to our farmer brothers, alley their misgivings and provide them with the assurances whatever they can provide. He also said that his government is always open for discussion and dialogue.”

The Defence Minister further added, “Agriculture has been one sector which has been able to avoid the adverse effects of the pandemic and, in fact, come out the best. Our produce and procurement has been plentiful and our warehouses are full.”

Highlighting the Atmanibhar Bharat Initistive, Rajnath Singh said, “In May this year, a 20 lakh crore package addressed a number of challenges faced by the country. The focus of this initiative also aimed to provide a major impetus to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.”

Thousands of farmers from different parts of the country have been protesting along the borders of New Delhi from November 26, with the demands for the Centre to revoke the three controversial farm bills, which are – Farmers (Empowerment and Protection), Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Till now, the government has conducted six rounds of meetings and discussion with the farmers organizations which also comprises of the meeting with Amit Shah offering for changes in the laws and written assurances.
