Rajnath Singh inaugurates India’s first driverless metro car developed indigenously

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched on Friday India’s first indegenously designed and developed Driverless Metro Car at the manufacturing facility of BEML in Bengaluru.

Singh visited the facility, and lauded the good work of the team of engineers and technicians deployed at BEML, which is based in Bengaluru. He said, “They are the real warriors of Atmanirbhar Bharat, taking India ahead.”

The driverless metro cars are manufactured with stainless-steel body with a passenger capacity of 2280 in six-cars metro train set, as per BEML. BEML has received the order of 576 cars which will be for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)’s MRS1 project and the supply is planned to be dispatched till January 2024.

At the inauguration ceremony, Raj Kumar IAS, Secretary (Defence and Production) and BEML Limited Chairman and Managing Director, Deepak Kumar Hota were present on the occasion. Hota stated, “BEMLs foray into metro manufacturing has been a defining moment in the urban transportation scenario in India.”

Rajnath launched the Aerospace Assembly Hangar, based in the BEML’s Bangalore Complex and also inaugurated the first Tatra Cabin by BEML which is indegenously prepared.
