The second phase of polling for the 144 Gram Panchayats based in several regions of Dakshina Kannada like Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia and Kaduba taluks, has begun on Sunday morning.
For the 1,541 seats in the 114 Gram Panchayats, as many as 3,421 candidates are contesting in the elections.
At the Hirebandadi Gram Panchayat Limits, among many who cast their votes was Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, whereas at Belthangady MLA Harsh Poonja exercised his voting right at the Belthangady.
In the Maoist infested areas of Naravi, Kuthloor in Belthangady taluk had ANF personnel appointed for managing the security of the provinces. The Asha workers along with the other health workers were observed checking the body temperature of the voters prior to giving them entry within the booth for casting the vote.
For the 46 Gram Panchayats in Belthangady, there are 292 polling booths, 151 booths in Puttur for 22 Gram Panchayats, for 25 GPs in Sullia have 132 booths and for 21 GPs in Kadaba, there are 135 booths.
