The state government of Karnataka has discharged six patients from the total eleven patients in the state who have been identified Covid-19 positive with the new mutant UK strain.
On Saturday, a 34-year-old woman along with her six year old daughter were discharged from the Trauma and Emergency Care Center, Bangalore Medical College and Research Center (BMRCI) on Saturday. The four people are from Shivamogga which comprises of a 40-year old man, a woman in 30s and two children.
According to Dr Smitha Segu, who is the nodal officer at BMRCI, the woman and her daughter were given the discharge on Saturday and are directed for home isolation for the net 14 days. Dr Rajesh Suragihalli, District Health Officer (DHO), Shivamogga, revealed the four of them, belong to the same family and were discharged over the weekend, as they were tested Covid-19 negative twice.
It was noted that all patients have been asymptomatic.
Dr K Ravi, Head, General Medicine, BMRCI, said, “None of them had any symptoms to speak of and they were subject to a standard regimen of zinc and Vitamin C tablets. In fact, their treatment did not deviate in the least from patients suffering the older variant of the virus.”
The doctors revealed about the primary problem being the mental stigma associated to the diseases over the physical infliction. Dr Smitha revealed, “There was discontent over the food being supplied to them. These were eventually sorted out.”
An official from the Department of Health and Family Welfare revealed about may expression worry pertaining to the stigma. The official said, “Most of them are anxious about their course of illness, guilty about having spread the same to their kith and kin. They are also worried about the stigma and discrimination. To a large extent, counselling helped them deal with all these issues.”
