Randeep Guleria, Director of All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) has raised caution about the upcoming third wave of Covid-19 infection and revealed that it may hit the country in the upcoming six to eight weeks, according to the news agency PTI. Emphasizing more on abiding Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, Guleria said till a good proportion of the population is vaccinated, people should strictly follow Covid-19 protocols of wearing a face mask and social distancing norms.

According to PTI, AIIMS director said, “If Covid-appropriate behaviour is not followed, the third wave can happen in six to eight weeks. We need to work aggressively to prevent another large wave till vaccination kicks in.”

He said the lockdown is not the solution to control the outbreak, with the devastating impact on India’s economy. He recommended preventive measures like an aggressive surveillance strategy to be implemented for Covid-19 hotspot areas and subsequent lockdown with a significant spike in the cases.

He further clarified that no valid evidence indicates that the upcoming third wave will impact the children, which was iterated in multiple reports.

Epidemiologists of India had predicted earlier that the Covid-19’s third wave is inevitable and will hit the country starting from September-October.
