The United Nations Security Council has rejected Pakistan’s application with respect to listing two Indian citizens to be termed as global terrorists under the 1267 Committee for Counter-terrorism Sanctions. This was a joint decision passed by France, United Kingdom, United States, Germany and Belgium together as UNSC Council. Regarding the issue, India’s Permanent Representative to UN, T S Tirumurti has posted on Twitter, “Pakistan’s blatant attempt to politicize 1267 special procedure on terrorism by giving it a religious colour, has been thwarted by UN Security Council. We thank all those Council Members who have blocked Pakistan’s designs”

Pakistan, with the support of China, had passed the proposal for listing four Indian individuals in 2019 under the UN 1267 Sanctions List. From the four names, two names listing for Angara Appaji and Gibinda Pattnaik Duggivalasa were rejected by UNSC on Wednesday and the proposal for other two names was blocked earlier. Pakistan had allegedly blamed the four Indian nationals about providing funds to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other terror groups.
