Violent protests in 4 Rajasthan districts, Internet suspended and section 144 imposed

Violent protests happened in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan by the youth over the escalated matter of teacher recruitment examination, as a result of which, Internet has been suspended and Section 144 is imposed in the four tribal districts of Southern Rajasthan.

The protests began on Thursday when hundreds of tribal youth gathered around National Highway no 8 in Dungarpur, started setting vehicles on fire and atatcking the police officers. Their demand was to fill the 1,167 unreserved seats of government teachers with ST candidates.

Over the past three days, six trucks, five buses, four police vehicles, nine cars, nine tempos and one motorcycle have been hit. As the matter escalated out of hand, on Saturday, internet has been suspended in selective areas of Udaipur, Banswara and Pratapgarh and prohibitions regarding gathering of more than 5 people has been imposed.

Inspector Geberal Binita Thakur from Udaipur stated, “So far around 550 people have been booked and 34 persons have been arrested.”
