Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday has sanctioned to obtain one lakh portable oxygen concentrators with the funding to be released for the same from the PM Cares Fund.
Apart from the already sanctioned 713 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) plants with the PM Cares Fund, additionally 500 new PSA plants have been sanctioned.
PM Modi posted on Twitter, “1 lakh portable oxygen concentrators will be procured, 500 more PSA oxygen plants sanctioned from PM-CARES. This will improve access to oxygen, especially in district HQs and Tier-2 cities.”
The call fo the sanction was taken at the high-level review meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussing the required measures to enhance the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) Supply for COVID management.
PM Modi directed the order that these oxygen concentrators should be obtained as soon as possible and should be made available for states who are having the highest burden, according to an official release by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The PSA plants will enhance and accelerate the supply of LMO for the hospitals based in the district headquarters and Tier 2 cities. The aforesaid 500 PSAs will be curated with the transfer of the indegenous technology established by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) along with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to the domestic manufacturers.
The establishment of the PSA plants will be a definite step towards meeting the present challenges in the health infrastructure at various hospitals. With the severe shortage of oxygen supply throughout the hospitals in the country, the Government is importing oxygen concentrators and oxygen generation equipment from several countries to make an attempt towards satiating the needs of the broken health infrastructure.
