Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh commence the second phase of Smart Village Campaign

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had initiated the second phase of the Smart Village Campaign for Punjab on Saturday at a virtual launch. The campaign with the objective of powering state’s rural transformation is estimated at the cost of Rs. 2,775 crore.

Rahul Gandhi joined the virtual launch from Delhi, and the chief minister and other officials and village heads connected from 1,500 different locations across the state, to plan a working strategy for execution of 48,910 works.

Amarinder Singh revealed the scheme would invoke the creation of the much needed rural infrastructure which will better the living standards by capitalising on technological advances, as an element of the rural transformation strategy planned by the government. After the fortunate culmination of the phase-1 campaign, Singh assured that the second phase will have adequate implementation of schemes.

He stated the first phase was about working on the key aspects like solid waste management, revival and renovation of ponds, lakes, streetlights and parks. But, for the second phase, the funding has already been given to the 13,264 bodies of village authorities.

He further revealed about the government’s plan to help the house owners who have temporary roofs with the motive of rural poor with enhanced housing amenities.
