Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have an interaction with the chief ministers of several states to discuss about the current status of COVID-19 in the country along with the issues pertaining to the ongoing vaccination drive in the country scheduled for April 8 via the mode of video conferencing, as per the sources.
On Sunday, PM Modi had headed a high-level review meeting over COVID-19 and the vaccination process. Modi presented the five-fold strategy comprising of Testing, Tracing, Treatment, Covid appropriate behaviour and Vaccination, which when implemented with dedication and seriousness, will be effective in containing the virus transmission.
He further directed the central team comprising of public health specialists and clinicians to be sent to Maharashtra considering the high caseload and death and also to Punjab and Chhattisgarh due to the higher death count.
As per the statement released by PMO, “There is an alarming rate of growth of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country with 10 states contributing to more than 91 per cent of the cases and deaths due to COVID.”
Alongside, India registered more than 100,000 cases over the last 24 hours, which is the highest single day surge in the cases amid the pandemic which commenced last year. As per Union Health Ministry and Family Welfare (MoHFW), around 1,03,844 people had tested COVID-19 positive in 24 hours, which is accelerated by the surge of the cases in Maharashtra which added up to 57,074 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
