Bengaluru has taken the lead as the top performer in the Million+ category over the final rankings of Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020 along with the Municipal Performer Index (MPI) 2020.
Pune got the second rank, and the other cities that scored well are Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Indore, Vadodara, and Greater Mumbai.
The rankings were released by the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs in a virtual event on March 4. The rankings were declared for the cities having the population over a million and another for cities with less than million for Ease of Living 2020 where 111 cities had participated for assessment.
Bengaluru got the first rank in the Million+ category followed Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Indore and Greater Mumbai. For less than a million, Shimla got the first position for EoLI. For MPI also, the classification was more than a million and less than a million.
For million+, Indore took the first position for MPI and in less than million category, New Delhi Municipal Council took the lead.
The Ease of Living Index (EoLI) is an assessment tool that inclines towards evaluation of the quality of life and the outcome of initiatives taken for urban development. Quality of life, economic – ability of a city and its sustainability and resilience. The Municipal Performance Index (MPI) reviews the local government practice amid the municipalities in domain of services, finance, policy, technology and governance.
