Surging with protests, Twitter is flooded with the hashtag #RepublicofThailand on Friday as a collective stand against the Parliament’s decision of delaying the change in the constitution.
Over the last couple of months, there have been constant protests to induce constitutional reforms pertaining to reducing the power of King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s monarchy. The hashtag #RepublicofThailand has been a part of 730,000 tweets and has been the most trending hashtag on Friday morning in Thailand.
There were no specific comments given by the Royal Palace. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha said, “There are those who want to amend the constitution and others who don’t.”
The Parliament, particularly backed by the supporters of the government have taken the step to delay the decision. It was on Wednesday that hundreds of royalists opposed the anti-government protests.
