Israel announces a nationwide lockdown again after a second wave of Covid-19

Israel’s government has declared that the country is going to have a three – week nationwide lockdown starting this Friday as announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a televised news conference on Sunday night.

This move comes as a step to curb the second wave of Coronavirus hitting the country in the recent few weeks. According to the instructions given by Netanyahu, all the citizens will be restricted to stay within 500 metres of their homes. The lockdown, which will impose the schools, stores, malls, and hotels to be closed. The attempts are taken to stagnant the growth of cases as a country of 9 million recorded 4,000 fresh cases on a single day last week.

“Our goal is to stop the increase, to reduce the contagion,” Netanyahu said

The lockdown will resume from 1100 GMT on FRiday, a few hours prior to the start of the Jewish New Year and High Holidays, including the Day of Atonement and Sukkot.

“I know these measures will exact a heavy price on us all… This is not the kind of holiday we are used to. And, we certainly won’t be able to celebrate with our extended families,” he added.
