The staff of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has extended their protests at the Civic Centre on Tuesday against the non-payment of the remuneration and the pensions for second consecutive day.
They were hooting the slogans like ‘Vetan do’ (pay us the salary), ‘Vetan lene aaye hai’ (We have come here to collect our salaries), ‘Paanch mahine se bina vetan kaam’ (Worked for five months without pay).
With the approaching festive season of Diwali, the staff has stated that their demonstration will go on till the MCD authorities do not settle the payment of their salaries and also provide them with the Diwali bonus.
Amid the protests on Monday, an employee from NCD, Shakuntala Devi stated, “I haven’t received my salary since June 4. We’re protesting since morning because there isn’t any other way to fetch our rights now. We demand the clearance of our monthly dues and we should be paid our bonuses as well. MCD administration had promised to clear our dues soon but they have failed. They paid the doctors of the three municipal hospitals after their protest and we were sidelined. Now our protest will continue as long as our salaries aren’t paid.”
The in-house doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital had continued their protests for some weeks raising the issue of non-payment of salaries, following which their demands were fulfilled on October 29. The MCD staff, currently raising the issue over protests was annoyed considering the utter negligence of the administration for the demands as they had cleared the payment of the in-house doctors for ending their strike.
