Mexican women conflict with police for demanding abortion legalization

Mexican women on Monday charged police lines during protests and attacked the police with Molotov cocktails in Mexico city strongly demanding the legalization of abortion for the country having majority of Roman Catholic.

The protesters gathered in the capital city on September 28 for commemorating International Safe Abortion Day.

The police officers in return sprayed fumes of tear gas at the protesters who were throwing hammers and bottles and paint. One police officer was injured in the fire after being attacked by Molotov cocktail, following which the other officers settled the fire with the extinguishers.

It is only in the Mexico City and the southern state of Oaxaca that abortion got legalized last year. It is banned in all the other parts of Mexico, except for on grounds of conditions such as rape.
