SII’s Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covishield’ to be sent to Kathmandu, Dhaka

The Serum Institute of India’s (SII) batch of 10 lakh dosages of the Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covishield’ to be dispatched to Kathmandu and a batch of 20 lakh dosages to be directed to Dhaka. The consignments of the dosages arrived at the early hours of Thursday on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

The flight for Kathmandu scheduled for 06.40 am and for Dhaka will be leaving at 08.00 am.

Nepal, with a population of around 30 million has made a decision to vaccinate 72 percent of the citizens. Nepal had declared that the legal and financial requirements pertaining to the vaccine roll-out have been all met and the vaccination drive is all set to commence in Nepal.

Alongside the dispatch of Covid-19 vaccines, India has consistently attempted to aid Nepal by providing medical equipment, medicines other logistical support for fighting the pandemic.

Bangladesh had, on January 8, had given a green signal to obtaining 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine Covishield manufactured by SII and developed by Oxford University AstraZeneca. India has announced a vaccine roll-out for the neighbouring countries with its neighbourhood First Policy.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, India supplied hydroxychloroquine, paracetamol, Remdesvir along with diagnostic kits, ventilators, masks, gloves and other medical supplies to s large number of countries.
