Covid-19 vaccination drive at 11 health facilities in Bengaluru

The Covid-19 vaccination drive that commences on January 16, Saturday will be at 11 health facilities in Bengaluru which includes six centres in BBMP limits and five centres in Bengaluru Urban.

Under BBMP limits, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, KC General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, CV Raman General Hospital, Mallasandra Urban Primary Health Centre and St John’s Medical College will be vaccinating about 600 healthcare workers. Alongside, the Bengaluru Urban Region will be vaccinating a number of beneficiaries at centres which include Anekal Taluk Hospital (79), KR Puram Taluk Hospital (99), Kannuru Primary Health Centre (59), East point Medical College (100) and Yelahanaka Geberal Hospital (100).

“We are not keeping things till last minute,” remarked Dr Srinivas GA, Bengaluru Urban DHO.

Srinivas further said, “We have supplied vials and syringes to all five facilities. MLA Byrathi Basavaraj will inaugurate the drive at KR Puram Hospital. Except on Saturday, when the vaccination will start at 11 am, it will start at 9 am on the other days.”

For the KC General Hospital, with 85 permanent Group D workers, the hospital is yet deliberating on the number of people for the list on Saturday. Dr B R Venkateshaiah confirmed about receiving 12 vials of Covishield on Friday evening.

He said, “We will keep the vials in the refrigerator overnight, but we are not sure which Group D worker will be vaccinated first and how many of the 85 are on the 100 beneficiaries list. We have been given two extra vials in case of breakage.”

For CV Raman General Hospital, medical superintendent Dr H D R Radhakrishna stated that 10 vials will be sent by the Murphy Town Primary Health Centre. Dr Radhakrishna stated, “We have 20 sanitation workers and 16 Group D workers. Eight of the 16 have even been cured of leprosy. Whoever comes first, whomsoever gets the OTP first, that Group D worker will be vaccinated first.”

BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad reviewed the hospital arrangements and termed them satisfactory. Regarding the second phase of vaccination drive, Prasad said the registration by the frontline workers need to be completed by January 24 and for any network issues, the procedure can be directed offline.
