India, Canada have a broad-based relationship and are natural partners says Vishnu

Vishnu Prakash, Former High Commissioner to Canada on Thursday said that India and Canada have a broad-based relationship and are natural partners and also mentioned about Indians being held with high esteem in Ottawa.

While briefing the issue with ANI, Vishnu said despite there are “niggles in India-Canada relationship but the relationship is much bigger than the niggles.”

When asked about the discussion amid PM Modi and Justin Trudeau over strategic partnership and bilateral economic cooperation, Vishnu said, “India and Canada do not share an one-issue relationship but a very broad-based relationship. We are natural partners given the fact that we are not just democracies but we are multicultural societies. We have similarities of outlook and our economies are complimentary. They are very strong in natural resources including uranium and their innovation. They are also very good at green and clean technologies. Meanwhile, India has strength in sectors such as services, pharmaceuticals and auto components.”

Vishnu also spoke about how Canada is considered the most preferable destination of Indian students opting for higher education as around 250,000 students are presently in Canada. About the status of Indians in Canada, he mentioned about Indians to be held in high self-esteem. He said, “The highly skilled Indians are given preferences over any nationalities. By every stretch of the imagination, we should be natural partners. Though there are niggles in the relationship, the relationship is much bigger than the niggles. Both sides want to move ahead.”
