SC permits addition of Homeopathy to the standard care in COVID-19 treatment: Kiren Rijiju revealed to Lok Sabha

The Supreme Court in its verdict given on December 15, 2020, had upheld the advisory and now given permit to add Homeopathy to the standard care pertaining to Covid-19 care treatment. This was iterated by Kiren Rijiju, who is holding the position of Additional Charge of Minister of State for the Ministry of AYUSH to the Lok Sabha on Friday.

With a question asked by Member of Parliament, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, Kiren gave the clarification, where it was mentioned about the order passed in March 2020, that though not the primary line of treatment, but Homeopathy was added as a line of therapy to the standard care list for treatment of COVID-19.

The Ministry of AYUSH had taken various steps with AYUSH systems of medicine inclusive of Homeopathy for COVID-19 related treatment and quoted the advisory issued by the Ministry dated January 29,2020 on “how to protect oneself from COVID and how to stay healthy.”

Kiren further gave the reference of a letter which was issued on March 6, 2020 by the Ministry of all the Chief Secretaries of the states and the Union territories which present the suggestions and proposals over enhancing the general immunity of the masses and the potential interventions of AYUSH.

A press release published by the Ministry of AYUSH said, “The reply furnished by the AYUSH Minister also brought out some other information of public interest in the matter of management of Guidelines for Registered Practitioners of respective system of AYUSH (including Homeopathy), made available in the public domain for the benefit of the registered AYUSH practitioners including Homeopathy to help in the management of COVID-19 pandemic uniformly.”

The AYUSH Ministry has conducted 105 interdisciplinary clinical studies at 136 centres across the country via assistance from several research organizations and National Institutes under the Ministry of AYUSH.
