Former leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Umar Khalid who was arrested under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for the Delhi communal riots violence will be held in judicial custody till October 22.
As the police custody terminated, Umar Khalid was presented virtually before Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat. He has been arrested from September 13.
Khalid has an FIR lodged against him for “premeditated conspiracy” in context to the communal violence. Apart from that, he has also been charged with sedition, murder, attempt to murder, promoting enmity on the basis of religion and rioting.
The communal riots happened in north east Delhi on February 24 with due violence between protesters and supporters of Citizenship law which led to the lives of 53 people and around 200 were injured.
